WOTD, ἐκεῖνος

The word of the day is…

ἐκεῖνος, ἐκεῖνη, ἐκεῖνο

Classical Greek, ekeinos, ekeinē, ekeino, 1. “that”, a demonstrative pronoun or adjective.

When used as an adjective, it usually precedes the article. This is different from other adjectives:

ἀγαθος ὁ φίλος – The friend is good. (a sentence)

versus:

ἐκεῖνος ὁ κῆρυξ – that herald (a phrase)
