WOTD, δόξα

The word of the day is…

δόξα, δόξης, ἡ

Greek, doxa, doxēs, hē, 1. expectation, belief, opinion. Strong”s notes that this is always positive opinion in the N.T. In classical Greek, when used to signify “belief”, it can be used in contrast to “knowledge”, i.e., what is perceived or expected rather than what is factually observed. 2. reputation, glory, honor. This comes directly out of the idea of people’s opinion of someone is their reputation, and when good, this is described as glory.
