WOTD, τίς

The word of the day is…

τίς, τί

Greek, tis, ti, 1. interrogative pronoun/adjective: who? what? which? 2. adverbial accusative: why? for what [reason]?

Some important notes:

  • This is third declension in form:
    • M/F: τίς, τίνος/τοῦ, τίνι/τῷ, τίνα, τίνες, τίνων, τίσι(ν), τίνας…
    • N: τίς, τίνος/τοῦ, τίνι/τῷ, τί, τίνα, τίνων, τίσι(ν), τίνα…
  • Accent on forms never becomes grave, in violation of normal accent rules when followed by another word.
  • Accent is always on the first syllable.
