The word of the day is…
Greek, pote, 1. formerly, once 2. ever, at some time
ποτέ is a disyllabic enclitic, to be distinguished from πότε “when”, which is an interrogative. As a disyllabic enclitic, it is accented on the ultima when the preceding word has an acute accent on the penult. Otherwise, the word has no accent, and affects the accent of the preceding word based on the normal rules of enclitic accent change.
