WOTD, ἀγγέλλω

The word of the day is…

ἀγγέλλω, ἀγγελῶ, ἤγγειλα, ἤγγελκα, ἤγγελμαι, ἠγγέλθην

Classical Greek, aggellō, aggelō, ēggeila, ēggelka, ēggelmai, ēggelthēn, 1. to announce

There are some worthwhile things to point out:

  1. The duplication -λλ- is only found in the forms derived from the present tense stem.
  2. ἠ- found in parts III and VI is the augmented form. The unaugmented forms are ἀ-. Contrast this with parts IV and V, where ἠ- is the part of the unaugmented stem, and remains ἠ- in the past augmented forms.
  3. The future is formed in the same way as the present of contracted ποιέω.
